Six Students Receive Poster Awards at Drosophila Conference

The Genetics Society of America congratulates three graduate students and three postdoctoral fellows who received poster awards last month at the 49th Annual Drosophila Research Conference in San Diego, California. Winners received cash awards and a set of
GSA’s Conversations in Genetics DVD’s of interviews with prominent geneticists.

HHMI Announces New National Competition
for Early Career Faculty

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)
plans to select as many as 70 early
career scientists to receive six-year,
non-renewable appointments to HHMI and
receive substantial research support to
move their research in creative new
directions. Announced on March 10th, the
program is aimed at researchers who have
run their own labs for two to six years
and are now at the point of establishing
their own independent research programs.
Scientists who wish to be considered for
this competition must indicate their
intention to submit an application by
April 30, 2008. The deadline for
completed applications is June 10, 2008.
Selections are expected to be made by
